Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to play?
Estimated cost per player for new players will be $275 based on league fees of $175, uniform cost of about $75 and team equipment fee of about $25. Note that the total is less than $10 per game.

When does the money have to be paid?
League fees must be paid at the time the player is selected. Uniform and equipment fees are due before the season begins.

How many games do you play?
The GPMABL will play a 20 or 21 game regular season schedule plus two rounds of playoffs. The Comets may also play several non-league games and consider traveling to a regional tournament.  See the GPMABL schedule for details.

Where are the games played?
The league will use fields in and around Philadelphia for regular season games. The league championship series will be played at Richie Ashburn Field in FDR Park in South Philadelphia. The league also expects to hold its All Star Game at Daniel J. Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, DE, home of the minor league Wilmington Blue Rocks. See the directions to GPMABL fields for more information.

When are the games played?
All league games will be played Sunday mornings from April through the end of August, except on holidays when there is either a single game or no game at all. Starting times for the games will most likely be 10 a.m.  See the GPMABL schedule for details.

What is the name of the league?
Greater Philadelphia Men's Adult Baseball League, which is affiliated with the national Men's Senior Baseball League (MSBL) and Men's Adult Baseball League (MABL)

What is the level of competition?
The league has many former high school and college players as well as a few younger players who still have dreams of playing professionally. Pitchers generally throw in the 70s with moderately effective breaking pitches, but some throw fastballs in the 80s and can throw breaking pitches for strikes at will. In general, the good players make all the routine plays and hit straight fastballs a long way. See the list of last year's GPMABL Player of the Week honorees for background information about some of the league's outstanding players.

Who are you guys?
Philadelphia area residents who enjoy playing competitive baseball as a serious hobby. We come from a variety of backgrounds and range in age from 18 to over 30. To see the team roster, click here.  To see pictures of the team, click here.

How do you get your players?
We recruit players from a variety of sources, including ads in local newspapers, the Internet, and word of mouth. We hold tryouts each February and then add the best players to our team. We also occasionally add a player or two during the season.

Who is eligible to play?
To be eligible, players must be at least 18 years old and must complete the GPMABL Roster Information form and a national MABL waiver and consent form, and pay the league and team fees.
