Your schools in this city (New York) were vacant, they were abandoned, they were forsaken, and many, many teachers out of employment, for the lack of pupils, but because I came in your midst, I inspired them with the spirit for a higher and a better education! When I made an appeal to the hearers and friends to return to the schools, return to the school, both old and young, overnight three thousand turned out of the adults into the night school, and inside of a very short time there were at least five thousand added to the schools in this city in different vicinities." - May 12, 1940 A.D.F.D.
"The great educational system is a contagion that is well worth considering. If we would use this great contagion of education scientifically for the purpose of bringing each and everybody together it would be more effective, but our system of education tends to sever the people in a great measure instead of bringing them together. The more highly cultured we are the more in unity we should be with our fellowmen. We should bring ourselves in close relationship with them from an intellectual point of view, the same as working out a sum. If a man owes you so much for so much merchandise over here in Kingston and so much down in Newburgh and so much elsewhere, the principle of mathematics must ordinarily be consulted, and whatsoever the principle of mathematics will tell you concerning your account you will believe it, especially if you use the principle yourself and can use it accurately; you believe that whatsoever the principle tells you is right. Now the principle of this life of which we are stressing should bring us all together, by each and everyone using it scientifically and becoming to be experts in this wonderful drama of life! The more highly cultured and more intelligence we have, the more we should love ye one another; the more we should be free from the prejudices and bigotry of the savages!" - May 28, 1940 A.D.F.D.
